Best AnswerI live in Iowa, so I'd say I'm a pretty good source of info. We basically get both extremes in temperature. In the winter we can get lots of snow and it can get cold. In the summer it can reach up to more than 100. but lately things seem to be getting less extreme. This summer was pretty cool compared to others, and the winter wasn't too cold. We get some pretty wicked storms though. So , as you see it is cold here.

Iowa experiences a moderate amount of snowfall during the winter months, averaging between 30 to 50 inches annually, depending on the region. Northern Iowa tends to receive more snow than the southern parts of the state. Snowfall typically occurs from November to March, with January often being the snowiest month. Overall, while Iowa does see significant snow, it can vary considerably from year to year.
Iowa has colder winters because it isn't Lake side. The Lake keeps Chicago warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Other wise it would be a toss up.
