It called rhizome
vertically and horizontally. Vertically, they get taller as new growth sprouts from the top every year. Horizontally, they get thicker and branches get longer.
The rhizome is the stem of the fern plant. This can creep along or under the ground ,it may grow into a short or tall trunk (a vertical rhizome), or it may be a solid mass that gives rise to a tuft of fronds (an erect rhizome). Often, the rhizome grows underground. This produces roots and new fronds (leaves).
true,i love these kind of questions :)
Ginger is a modified stem. A rhizome to be exact. Its function is reproduction. Rhizomes usually grow underground, vertically, or horizontally. Exceptions to this description however is a clover or mint. I'm actually studying it now and was confused at first too lol.
Either a Spore or Sori The Rhizome is an underground stem that they grow from. Hope I helped!
Ferns reproduce through spores. They form on the under sides of the leaves or fronds. There are no flowers. When the spores are fully formed they fall from the fern are dispersed by wind, animals, or grow where they fall.
A horizontal underground plant stem with leaf shoots above and roots below is called a rhizome.
Rhizome is a STEM because the young leaves and adventitious roots grow from it.
Stems which grow horizontally are called stolons. Stems which grow horizontally are called stolons.
To grow a plant from a rhizome, you can cut off a portion of the rhizome and replant it . Make certain to get at least one node with each section. A node is a nodule where the roots grow.
You cannot grow Irises in an Aerogarden because they are bulbs or rhizome based, not seed.
