Life for miners during the Gold Rush was very hard and primitive. Therefore, the men were forced to leave their families behind as they went in search of wealth. As a result, the miners had to deal with feelings of loneliness, and homesickness. Some men kept the lines of communication open by sending letters back and forth. Others succumbed to The Temptations of alcohol and gambling.
