Well, I am certainly no expert. I am however in possession of a Bible from a former patient who was at Bryce Mental Hospital in Alabama many years and many moons back. Its really pitiful the way this bible was kept and I don t just mean its appearance as I mean whats on the inside in writing and on nearly every page of it. Its written in pencil. Really sad! In 2004 I did visit the old Bryce Mental Hospital and it was closed down. It showed traces of being burned and it smelled of burn. I took many pictures with my digital camera and there are what people are calling "orbs" present in my pictures. The place was a grand ole mental hospital at one time and I'm speaking of its structural beauty. Its sad people feel the need to destroy such historic beauty. I have heard stories from my family elders about other family members being mistreated in places like that and also being mistreated in Nursing Homes. One story in my family is of an Aunt of mine being beat to death in a Nursing home. I also have heard stories of how they were lined up and a water hose was used to bathe them. Now I cannot and will not say with one hundred percent certainty that these stories are true. I do know The Bible is true and in my possession. I would hope my entry here will open the door for others to tell their stories. God bless M
No, it wasn't schizophrenia depression. He died from syphilis and pneumonia. Back then, people who contracted syphilis were placed in asylums because they were considered crazy. I can only imagine how he was treated there.
Because they were mad, or insane.
mental asylums
Yes
They were locked up in asylums.
Mistreatment
The plural of asylum is asylums.
People where treated unfairly. People were treated like they were absolutely different. For example, if a baby was born with down syndrome, they would have been treated like slaves, and sold and bought for entertainment of (usually) royalty(as depicted in one famous painting of a little Spanish princess)
Metropolitan Asylums Board was created in 1867.
Metropolitan Asylums Board ended in 1930.
The bank takes it, sells it.
The word insane is not used any more but they are called psychiatric hospitals which long ago were called lunatic asylums. People who were in these hospitals were thought to be under the influence of the Devil and so were treated badly. Of course, it isn't so today.
