there are many ways to get to Pattaya.

planes are available from Don Muang Airport

bus are available from Public transport terminal at suvarnabhumi airport or from eastern, northern and southern terminals of Bangkok

private bus are available from Suvarnabhumi airport itself

you can hire taxis or limousines

you you can share a mini van with other

one train is available from Hua Lamphong station to Pattaya Train Station

if you are a backpacker, hanging out in the Khao San rd area of BKK then you can easily buy a tix there on the tourist bus which takes 12 hrs to travel north to chaing mai.... ( it leaves khao san road area about 6pm and arrives Chiang Mai city about 7am... give or take) this is the cheapest way....

you could also take a train... ( tix can be purchased directly at BKK train station or pay a little bit to Khao San Rd travel agents ( heaps of them around... pick one you like and trust... )... train takes same time as bux or longer and is very noisey... but more room to sleep if you pay for a sleeper bunk but cost considerably more than tourist bus

you can fly.... only takes about 4 hours.... costs the most

you can take a local bus.... costs MORE than tourist bus and is not as comfortable but is likely faster.

After that I have one more suggestion is to go through a travel agency & for that complete India & Asia is the best option for tour .
