Death Valley National Park was established on February 11, 1933. As passed by Congress, turned into law on October 31, 1994, creating the 1.4 million-acre Majave National Preserve. It also expanded Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Monuments by 1.3 million and 234,000 acres respectively and designated them as national parks. The act designated 57 million acres of land as wilderness, the largest in the nation.
