Pensacola was the name of local Muskogee tribe in the area so probably from them.
The Pensacola Bay area's original inhabitants were Native Americans. When Europeans first made contact, it was with a Muskogean-speaking tribe that was known to the Spanish as the Pensacola. Although the name Pensacola wasn't recorded until 1677, it would appear to be the source of the name that was given to the bay and then later, the city.
