William Penn
William Penn's statue was placed atop Philadelphia's City Hall in 1894 after a complex construction process. The statue, made of bronze and weighing about 53 tons, was hoisted into position using a combination of cranes and pulleys. The statue was carefully crafted by sculptor Alexander Milne Calder and was designed to symbolize the city's founding principles of peace and tolerance. Its elevation to the top of the building was a significant moment, marking the completion of the City Hall project.
Philadelphia City Hall was created in 1901.
