Weakning the catholic church as a primary influence, giving rise to the church of England as the primary religion.

Anglican Catholic Answer!

The poor were the ones who lost most from the closing down of the monasteries! The rich, the Merchants ,Gentry and Nobility, Catholics or other wise, were the ones who got rich, fantastically so. A quarter of English wealth being put out in the market as it were, how could they go wrong and it wasn't only land!

IN effect Henry had bought the rich, Catholics and Protestants alike.

Henry didn't weaken the Catholic Church unduly, for 300 yrs it had been in a turmoil, regarding the papacy, what Henry did was to shake the Roman Church by taking the side of the followers of the ancient catholic ways, by supporting the canons of the Ecumenical Councils. It has to be grasped that the idea of the Holy Roman Church is of very recent origin, the Holy Catholic Church is something else indeed!
