The Incas were in the midst of a civil war over who should inherit the throne when the Spanish arrived. With primitive weapons facing gunpowder and armor, and a disunited military force, they presented little challenge and were quickly defeated. The Aztecs were only recently dominant in their region, and were widely hated for taking POWs or demanding hostages, as these people were then used as live human sacrifices, their beating hearts torn out and burned on an altar, and their bodies eaten in a religious ritual. The Spanish had little problem getting neighboring nations to help overthrow the Aztecs. Read more: How_did_the_divisions_within_the_aztec_and_inca_empire_help_the_spanish_defeat_the_natives

The Spanish were able to defeat the Aztec and Inca empires largely due to their advanced military technology, such as firearms and steel weapons, which gave them a significant advantage in battles. Additionally, they exploited internal divisions and rivalries within these empires, forming alliances with disenfranchised groups. The introduction of diseases like smallpox, to which the indigenous populations had no immunity, decimated their ranks and weakened their resistance. Lastly, charismatic leaders like Hernán Cortés and Francisco Pizarro played crucial roles in orchestrating the conquests.
The defeats of the Aztec and Incan empires were similar in that both were significantly impacted by European diseases, which decimated their populations and weakened their societies before the arrival of Spanish conquistadors. Additionally, both empires faced overwhelming military force and advanced weaponry from the Spanish, including firearms and horses. However, they differed in their internal political dynamics, as the Incan Empire was further weakened by a recent civil war, while the Aztecs faced a more unified resistance against the Spanish. Furthermore, the strategic alliances formed by Hernán Cortés with discontented tribes played a crucial role in the Aztec defeat, while Francisco Pizarro exploited existing divisions within the Incan leadership.
Spanish Conquistadors destroyed both civilizations.
