they held it in der hand and the needle points to magnetic north so they know which way is north south east and west and they dont get lost
Well the early explorers wont need a compass if they had an atlas because if the had one it will be easy just as the compass to figure out where they were by using the map
Early explorers did not have the same tools we have today. They would have used the sun as a navigational tool along with a compass. They would have had crude maps, boats, sailing winds and even the experience of trackers.
Compass helped the explorers
the compass helped early explorers travel by telling them which way they were going: North, East, South, West.
The compass effected exploration because without it, exploration would not have been possible to the early peoples. The compass was invented in China, and some of the earliest explorers were in Egypt. :)
