Calypso and Circe both use enchantment and allure to keep Odysseus from returning home. Calypso, a nymph, detains Odysseus on her island, Ogygia, for several years, offering him immortality and companionship, while he yearns for his home and family. Circe, a sorceress, initially traps Odysseus and his men in her home, turning them into animals, but later helps him navigate his journey after he resists her magic. Both figures embody the themes of temptation and the struggle against distractions that delay Odysseus's return to Ithaca.
Circe and Calypso kept Odysseus from reaching home in very different ways. After Odysseus conquers the goddess-enchantress Circe she helps him . She is an excellent hostess and lover to Odysseus and his men have to convince him to leave. Calypso falls in love withe Odysseus and keeps him captive until Hermes convinces her to let him free.
She loves him and wants him to live with her.

Odysseus justifies his time with Calypso and Circe as necessary for survival and the fulfillment of his destiny. He explains that he was held captive by forces beyond his control, and that he had to navigate various challenges in order to ultimately return home to his wife and son.
keeping Odysseus prisoner on her island and preventing him from reaching home
Well we just finished the book and my opinion on this that because he knows that his wife is at home he's trying to get back to her. And besides, while Calypso may have loved him, Circe was just a seductress, trying to distract him.

In Homers Odyssey, the protagonist Odysseus is captured by the nymph Calypso on his way home from the battle of Troy. For seven years he is unable to leave the island, before Athene makes Zeus intervene by the hand of Hermes. Calypso frees Odysseus and by different circumstances he ends up in the company of Circe, daughter of Helios. Odysseus asks her how he can return home. Circe cannot give him the answer, but suggests that he seeks the advice of a prophet called Tiresias. Tiresias is dead, but Circe provides Odysseus with instructions on how to cross the river Styx, and enter Hades, the underworld. And that is the reason why Odysseus visited the underworld.
