The best way I would believe would be open communication, respect for others beliefs, ethnicity, privacy, and the rights of an individual in general. An action of one person can make a negative or positive impact on society as a whole. If someone chooses to belittle another for something as serious as their beliefs or as trivial as the way they dress, they set in motion negative responses which will inevitably affect many others. An example is, the person who cuts someone off on the freeway travels on his merry way while the other driver takes his frustration out on someone else, and so on down the line. BTW, it's been noted that people in NYC are much more tolerant of others than one would think; (although it seems primetime tv would prefer us to believe otherwise).
There certainly is bigotry in NYC, but unlike the rest of the country, everyone is forced to confront the people they are bigoted against on a daily basis. This leads to tolerance and acceptance. People in NYC are much more divided on class issues than race issues.

In recent decades Ireland has become much more diverse and cosmopolitan as more people from around the world have moved to Ireland. As a result there are quite a wide range of cultures, along with Ireland's own culture. There are large amounts of people from other parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australasia.
