I remember Jack from my 1960s childhood in Jersey City. I left the place in 1970 but had read about Jack's murder sometime after that. As I recall, some young tough demanded Jack's money, Jack refused, and the guy shot him in the chest. Very sad. Jack was a real icon. What a dreadful end, but emblematic of what Jersey City had become.
