Yellow fever is controlled by reducing or eliminating the population of mosquitoes that transmit the disease and by taking measures to prevent being bitten by mosquitoes when in regions where the disease is present. In addition, a safe and effective vaccine against Yellow Fever has existed since the mid-20th century and is required for travelers by some countries.

Before the vaccine was developed, Yellow Fever was controlled by preventing mosquito bites through use of mosquito netting, etc., and by controlling or eliminatingmosquito breeding grounds.

There is no therapy for the disease once contracted.
