There is no safe way to translate "butt" into Russian, as all Russian words for the posterior seem to be either crude or childish with nothing in between.

Depending on the context and the audience, you may be okay with попа, pronounced popa or, more precisely, pawpa. Under certain circumstances, попка (popka) may work better. Like, if you want to tell a girlfriend that you like her cute little but. It does not work if you are not sufficiently familiar with the person, of if the butt is not all that little.
