It's pretty tricky to transfer - UT won't consider you at all unless your grade point average is above a 3.0, and the average GPA for transfers is somewhere around a 3.6.

Additionally, UT doesn't take into account your high school grades, or the school you are transferring from. For example, if you are trying to transfer from an Ivy League school and you have a 3.0, this is not looked at as favorably as someone from a community college with a GPA of over 3.0. This is unfortunate, but UT has so many applicants that they can't really look at all the applicants on a personal basis. GPA is the main criteria they look at.

To help your chances, take classes that are relevant to your major - look online for a course requirement sheet. Work experience and letters of recommendation also help, but like I said, your GPA is the most important part of your application.
