Brighton Park (zip code 60632; roughly bounded by 38th St on the North, 47th St on the South, California Ave on the East, and Kedzie Ave on the West) used to be (1980s and earlier) a well kept neighborhood primarily populated with working class European immigrants. There were about 6 Catholic grammar schools/churches, Kelly High School, corner grocery stores, innumerable retail stores, and corner taverns. Now, Brighton Park is primarily populated with Latinos and features gang graffiti, boarded up stores, closed schools, and drive-by shootings.
