the Tennessee Valley Authority
dams were actually built in Ancient Mesoptamia. i dont know the time though.
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was established in 1933, during the Great Depression as one of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal programs. The purpose of the organization was to offer general economic development (for example fertilizer manufacturing, energy generation, and flood control) to the Tennessee Valley, a particularly impacted region during the Great Depression. No government plan works perfectly, but the TVA had a pretty high batting average, overall.
the Tennessee Valley Authority
The Tennessee Valley Authority built 40 dams (think beavers)to control flooding and also produced cheap electricity. The dams held back water widening canals thus enabling shipping. The TVA also planted forests to conserve soil. the trees held the dirt together thus stopping erosion.

The TVA drew criticism for its use of eminent domain to acquire land, its environmental impact from hydroelectric dams, and its role in displacing communities and disrupting ecosystems in the Tennessee Valley region.
