Months are issued as a set or block of 12 each and every year in a manner that is not unlike the Book of the Month Club or the archaic Christmas Club. Each year you sign up for a new set of twelve consecutive months that begin by starting on 1 January and proceed until 31 December which is called New Year's Eve. (New Year's Day is important because on that day you will need a new calendar, so make certain that you write that down each year.) It is not against the law to fail to use all of the days issued on a brand new calendar, they are however nonrefundable and only the Morticians and Graqvediggers Union discourages this practice. (Something about the 40 hour work week.)

It is not mandatory to purchase a new calendar on New Year's Day (Buying a calendar prior to to the expected day of use could be conwsidered an extravagance, and if you are a frugal person you may want to wait until the 1st of July when, by tradition they are marked down by 50%. (A price reduction of 25% should be expected on April Fool's Day and 75% on 1 October for those who are genuine penny-pinchers.)

If you are privileged enough to live in Kansas, Nebraska or Oklahoma (and a few other very select states) you may be able to obtain a free calendar at your local Co-Op grain elevator simply by stopping by (Please do not park on the weigh scales). Do not expect them to be open at your convenience on New Year's Day after all, the night before is New Year's Eve and many will stayed up as late as 10:00 PM for the celebration.
