It has been estimated that anywhere from 600,000 to 1.5 million Armenians died during the 1st world war.
___
The usual figure is about 1.2-1.5 million in the Turkish genocide of the Armenians. The above answer is deliberately misleading. For some reason, successive Turkish governments, Turkish nationalists and their friends just haven't got what it takes - even now, over eighty years after the event to face up to their past. They could learn a thing or two from the Germans and Austrians and earn respect by doing so. Instead they lie, lie and lie. Shameful!
----
The correct number can not be given yet as the genocide is not finished, a lot of Armenians still have to die to get the job done!
1.5 million people died in the Armenian Genocide.
Only about 900,000 Armenians survived the Armenian Genocide.
Genocide is defined as "the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group." The Ottoman Government was responsible for the Armenian Genocide. To be specific Envar, Jemal, and Talat-pasha were the main people who organized the genocide. The killings were an attempt to wipe out the Armenians and rid them from Turkey. The reason you hear many people complaining/talking about the Armenian Genocide, and not the Holocaust, is because the Turkish government has not accepted the Armenian Genocide. They say it was a civil war, not a genocide, and they teach that to the children in the schools.
not all of the world ignored the Armenian genocide, infact there are many countries who believe the Armenian genocide happened (which is great) only some of the major countries (like U.S.A) stilll don't believe that the genocide happened, because Turkey is one of the major countries of the world and America is friends with them, so i guess that's why they ignored the Armenian genocide, plus, people are saying " It happened already! Why do we have to care about something that happened in 1915?!" Well, I'll tell you why, this genocide led to many genocides that were influenced by the Ottoman Empire, Like the Jewish Genocide, and Darfur, And Rwanda. It's all about power, and Turkey is powerful.
It was the first genocide of the 20th century, and what the Turks did served as an example to many other criminals. To encourage his accomplices, Hitler once said "after all, who still remembers the Armenian genocide?".
I presume you meant 'How many....' Over the centuries, countless millions have died in acts of genocide.
No. Turkey has passed legislation banning any open discussion of the Armenian Genocide (part of Article 301) and uses its important diplomatic and economic position to prevent other countries from recognizing the Armenian Genocide. This has resulted in many Turkish diplomatic problems, like EU entry, which is conditioned on Turkey's acceptance of the Armenian Genocide. Failure to recognize the genocide has made it difficult to establish diplomatic relations between Turkey and the modern Republic of Armenia. Please see Editorial: Turkey Must Recognize the Armenian Genocide from 2004 to read more.
Nobody stopped the Armenian Genocide; almost all of the Armenians in Ottoman territories were either deported, killed, or fled.
