No one is answering this question but some assumptions can be made. One could look at the 2000 numbers of hiv/aids infections of over 32 million which was including the estimated 5 million newly infected that year. If you just added 5 million new cases for each year up to 2006 that number would be 62 million who are hiv/aids positive.

However, the numbers for 2006 as reported early 2007 showed a total of over 29 million and an estimated increase for 2007 to over 32 million. To me this seems to indicate a loss of up to 30 million lives during this 7 year period. Could this be right and if so why is there not a combined world effort to find a cure.

Perhaps because the research being done most extensively is devoted to treatments which can make these companies a lot of money. After all, it is just good business to concentrate on drugs which individuals have to buy for a lifetime in order to stay alive rather than a cure or vaccine which would prevent the transfer of the virus.

We have the drugs available to keep people alive, it is now time for us to combine our knowledge and resources from every country of the world. World leaders devoted to the concept of a cure for the dying and a vaccine to prevent further infections might not be loved by the pharmaceutical companies who make the money from the life extending drugs sold now. We eradicated smallpox this way and there is no reason other than these money hungry pharmaceutical companies who are coming up with nothing but repackaged treatments which then get another patent so they can continue making money after the older patents run out but don't do much more than what the previous drug treatments were capable of doing.

If the number of deaths from hiv/aids are even close to the figures I estimated above and we are no closer to a cure or vaccine today as we were 10 years ago, well then we really are nothing but a country which values the dollar over life. This would be a really sad reflection of our humanity and our human race would it not?
