There are 11 public holidays each year.
The 21st of September 2009 is the Autumn Public Holiday in Scotland. However in Scotland many businesses work on Public Holidays (staff often have the option of taking another day off) and Scottish Banks observe the English Bank holidays instead.
Around 2 million people from Scotland travel abroad each year for holidays or other purposes.
Each municipality is allowed to have a maximum of 14 public holidays per year. The government chooses 9 of these. At least 2 of these are chosen locally.

The United States has 11 public federal holidays each year. These holidays are; New Year's Day, Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Inauguration Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas. Other holidays one may know do not count as "public federal holidays" and are therefore not listed.
