13 stars and stripes
The 13 stripes on the flags of the United States of America represent the thirteen (13) original states. The flag with "76" displayed under an arc of 13 seven-pointed stars is known as the Fillmore or Bennington flag. Another unique feature of this flag is that the alternating red-white stripes begin with a white stripe at the top rather than the traditional red stripe. Supposedly this flag was from the Battle of Bennington, Vermont (August 1777) and was supposedly carried off the field of battle by Nathaniel Fillmore and passed down through generations of the Fillmore family. However, recent comparisons of flag construction, weaving, and materials dates this flag to the War of 1812 era. Regardless, it is an historic flag from one of our Wars with the British and is a very unique design. The original Bennington flag is in a museum in Bennington, Vermont.

Flags are not in and of themselves ( Vatican and Israeli banners excepted the latter a Star of David with two Blue stripes = Blue and White_ ) Religious articles. you are talking of Flag Desecration which is the proper term and does imply something anti-religious, but here in a patriotic vein. Flag desecration laws are somewhat vague- obviously there have been test cases as a Burlesque actress appearing in Philadelphia with a Thirteen star-and anchor ( Pattern of 76) insignia on her G-string which her defense argued was not , strictly speaking a flag- but was patterned after the famous Betsy Ross design- and Philadelphia, having a Betsy Ross league=was understandably up in arms! There are different angles here. I hav e seen as an advertising gimmick a portrait of Marilyn Monroe superimposed over the Stars and Stripes, and this is a form of Flag Descration in a sense. on the other hand various- non =flag-like combinations of (flying colors- red white and blue can be used- even with, and appropriately fireworks coming out of Uncle Sam"s hat. for example again, different strokes. Oddly in Greece they have dresses made almost exactly in the pattern of the Greek Flag- without the canton, and these are a popular fad .
