In theory, you can fit Alaska into Russia approximately 425 times. Alaska covers an area of about 663,300 square miles, while Russia is the largest country in the world, with an area of around 6.6 million square miles. This vast difference in size allows for multiple iterations of Alaska within Russia's borders. However, this is a purely theoretical calculation based on land area.
Alaska was purchased from Russia. The United States bought Alaska in 1967 fro $7.2 million. It was called "Seward's Folly" because many thought that Secretary Seward was crazy for buying the worthless land. However when gold was discovered in 1898, people began to thing differently.
Zero. It is Russia, then Bering Strait crossing and Alaska (which is America)
5 kilometers, when you look from Alaska to Russio.
About 424,491,520 acres.
That would only be possible if the Bering Sea froze over. About 25,000 years ago, or more, there was a land bridge between Russia and Alaska, and many scientists consider that the Native Americans came from Russia to Alaska and the down through North America by means of that land bridge.
From coast to coast, approximately two and a half miles.
Russia owned what is now Alaska, the 49th state of the US. Many of Seward's critics mocked the purchase. However, looking back it can be seen to have been a wise purchase by Seward.
Seward's Folly. Many people thought the US Secretary of State was crazy for offering $7.2 Million for a bunch of ice.
We wouldn't be able to see Russia from the United States. Much of the US oil reserves can be found in Alaska. The wealth of minerals, including gold and oil, have reimbursed the US for the cost many times over.
The Alaska purchase from Russia by the United States occurred in 1867 at the behest of Secretary of State William Seward. (see seward's folly) also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_purchase
It cost the US $7,200.000 to purchase Alaska which amounts to about $111,000,000 in 2010 dollars to get Russia out of North America.
