Every Korean male is required to serve about eighteen months of military service, which in itself constitutes a kind of suffering. As a conseqence of the military-service requirement for males, South Korea refuses to allow any form of dual citizenship for adults, causing yet another (mild) form of suffering. Foreign nationals who wish to naturalize are required to denounce all other citizenships, resulting in very low incidence of naturalization.
