The US has oil and estimation show we could do away with foreign oil dependency completely. The amount differs between studies but it does show that in crude oil alone there is about 20 years worth of oil. In oil shale there is upwards of 200 years worth. these estimates being based on U.S. consumption of oil today. That estimate is we use 20 million barrels a day. As we move forward development of new energies and new technologies I'm thinking we could make these reserves last much longer. We could within those 200 years get away from oil dependency completely. My question is if we have all this oil why are we saving it? Now that technologies are there to extract the oil from the oil shale why dont we do that? Lets stop supporting terrorist by purchasing their oil.

the ground
we don't have our own (or enough of it) Not quite. Most of the third world countries we get our oil from-Mexico, Angola, Algeria, or Venezuela can pay people a quarter of what we would have to pay oil rig workers here in the US and get away with it. Texas and New Mexico still have the resources under the ground, but it is just way to expensive for US crews to get it out!
Oil capacity: 0.42 US qt (0.40 ) 0.95 US gal (3.6 ) Since you cant get every last drop it will be slightly less. All you need to do is fill it on flat level ground till the oil reaches the bottom lip of the fill hole.
the Middle East
About 0.43 US gallons of oil.
The US is currently importing about 1,900,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada.
the depend alot on it
"Petroleum" is another name for what the rest of us call "oil" pumped out of the ground. The only difference is that when you call your oil "petroleum", you can get a better price for it.
There are 42 gallons of crude oil per barrel.
US at about 20,000,000 barrels of oil daily.
1 barrel of oil = 158.987295 liters 1 barrel of oil = 42 US gallons
