Supposedly, Zeus was born soon after the castration of Ouranos (Father Sky) by Cronus (Zeus' father). The youngest of 6 children, he was hidden from his father in a cave (Zeus' siblings being eaten by Cronus for fear they would overthrow him). Rhea (Zeus' mother), fed Cronus a stone in place of Zeus and gave him a drink of (poisoned) honeyed wine which made him vomit up the other children (and the rock). Zeus gathered his siblings, the Cyclopes and the Hecatonchieres and overthrew the Titans, beginning the reign of the Olympian gods.
