Ancient China has always been where modern China is today. Though parts of the boundaries may have ebbed and flowed during what was often a turbulent history. Not least when the various dynasties were in power.

I would call it a "delegated power" meaning power that constitutionally belongs to Congress is passed along or delegated to the President.

It was ruled by dynasties aka families that kept having successors (next person to claim the throne). If a dynasty ran out of successors, it would literally collapse and lose power. Maybe even be killed by the new dynasty that took over.
