The ancient city of Edo, which served as the political center of Japan during the Tokugawa shogunate, was characterized by its distinct social hierarchy, traditional wooden architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene, including theaters and festivals. In contrast, modern Tokyo is a sprawling metropolis known for its skyscrapers, advanced technology, and global financial significance. While both cities share the same geographic location and a rich cultural heritage, modern Tokyo is far more urbanized and diverse, reflecting contemporary lifestyles and international influences. Additionally, Edo had a more rigid social structure, whereas Tokyo today embraces a greater degree of social mobility and cultural exchange.
Kyoto, in my opinion, is vastly different from Tokyo. Kyoto is known for its many historical temples and shrines. It was one of the few cities that was not bombed in WW2 so still retains some of its pre-war charm. Tokyo on the hand is just another modern Asian mega-city.

Today, the modern lifestyle is overtaking the traditional lifestyle. Young individuals are seeking for careers-cities are the places to go for them.
