How was the isle of wight formed?

The pre-Roman name for the island was possibly Ynyswight meaning channel island,they named the island the isle of wight after the pre-roman as he lived on the isle of wight before he died on the 18th July 1876.

The chalk in the cliffs makes the outline of the isle of wight look white. so it was called the isle of wight! Its nothing to do with white cliffs - Wight is old English for creature - so it is the Isle of Creatures.
