There are two Georgias: There is the Georgia in the US, whose capital is Atlanta. There is also a country called Georgia, south of Russia. Its capital is Tbilisi.
Russia's invasion of Georgia is best understood in the context of the USSR era Soviet Union. In the time of the Soviet Union, Georgia was a mix of many ethnicities and cultures, and to this day maintains that diversity. An ethnic group known as the Ossesians, geographically in Georgia, but who consider themselves Russian ethnically, decided that they no longer wanted to be part of Georgia. Seeing this declaration as a potential to regain lost territory, Russia invaded Georgia with the intent of annexing as much territory as allowable by international appeasement, but with the guise of assisting their culturally similar and ethnically dependant brothers in a struggle for independance.

Georgia has no eternal enemies, but it has a strongly antagonistic relationship with Russia and the Russian-supported breakaway Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
