The 5th century BC is the most commonly recognized as Athen's cultural, empiric, economic and military 'Golden Age'. That's the time of the Parthenon, Athen's naval empire (enabled by the Delian League), the first democracy and also personas eg Plato,Herodetus, Pericles, Hippocrates and Socrates.

The ancient citadel of Athens was the Acropolis. This citadel is located on a high outcrop above Athens. It was built in the 5th century B.C.
He was not a democrat - democracy came to Athens over a century later under Cleisthnes.
