Malaysia Day is different from National day/Independence day(31 August 1957). Malaysia Day (16 September 1963) is the formation of Penisular Malaysia(before was name Malaya) and Sabah with Sarawak. Malaysia Day is usually just an acknowledgement of the day not a public holiday. The reason Sabah and Sarawak makes 16 September a holiday because on the same day, it's the Head of State (both Sabah & Sarawak) official Birthday. However, there was a call and occasionally debate on establishing the Malaysia Day as a nationwide celebrated holiday. The topic is fairly political and open for discussion, especially after the 2008 March 8th General Election.
