Tallahassee is largely urban, as it houses the state capitol, Florida State University, Florida A&M University and Tallahassee Community College. The traffic during the academic year alone attests to Tallahassee's population growth over the past several decades. On the flipside, the city is close to a number of rural areas, including the Apalachicola National Forest.
