yes, but they are very sour. They are better if eaten after the first frost or two when the pectin is less and the amt of fructose increases from the frosts.

The berries are not the best or most useful part of the Oregon Grape. It's the root and the root bark that has medicinal properties such as improving digestion, stimulating liver function and more. It's also been known to help with gallbladder function.


It has been know to Native Americans and nowadays, the berries are best in jams, especially when combined with other fruits like apple, blueberry or strawberry.


Caution: although there hasn't been an major issue reported, before fully ripe and after the first frost, they are known to contain mild toxins and are not safe for pregnant women. Consumption before ripe can cause some indigestion.
