Made a food purchase at my favorite Walmart in Santa Clara and apparently now they start charging EBT customers for the CRV. For a long time EBT covered that charge, but they no longer do when I asked the store employees why, they don’t know.
Yes, EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) users are required to pay California Redemption Value (CRV) fees on eligible beverage containers when purchasing them. The CRV is a deposit added to the price of certain beverages, which is refundable when the containers are returned for recycling. However, EBT benefits can only be used for food purchases and cannot be applied to pay for CRV fees.
EBT customers can use their benefits to purchase eligible food items, but they cannot use EBT for non-food items or certain beverages that are not classified as food. Soda is generally considered a food item, so EBT can be used to purchase it; however, customers may still be responsible for paying the California Redemption Value (CRV) and any applicable sales tax out of pocket, as these charges are not covered by EBT. It's always best for customers to check local regulations and store policies for specifics.
Can you use your California EBT in Texas
No
In California, non-CRV (California Refund Value) aluminum cans cannot be recycled alongside CRV aluminum cans for redemption purposes. However, both types of cans can be recycled together in the general recycling stream. It's important to separate them if you're taking them to a recycling center for CRV refunds, as only CRV cans are eligible for refunds. Always check local guidelines for specific recycling practices.
They will take the EBT card but they will charge you $1.00 delivery fee that you have to pay in cash. At least that is how it is in the Carolinas.

HI, CRV is covered by Food Stamps in California. I just purchased a 12 pack diet coke and did not have to pay extra.
I am a representative of Bristol Farms' grocery chain in California and yes, we do accept EBT cards.
Yes, The EBT card can be used anywhere in the US regardless of where it was issued. It runs off the Quest network and can be used anywhere where the merchant accept the Quest network. *I used a California EBT card in Georgia and Florida*
