Acceptable? To whom? There are those to whom anything is acceptable. There are also those to whom certain things will never be acceptable. It is the reason debates on issues like this rage on. Acceptable to society? Through time and erosion, you can get society to accept almost anything. Nazi Germany accepted the mass murder of Jews, homosexuals, and communists for the entire duration of Hitler's reign. The question is not whether it would be acceptable, but when and how. Acceptable by law? In certain places with laws allowing it, such as Oregon, Washington, the Netherlands, etc, yes. Almost all other places, no. Yes, it is terrible to watch loved ones die. It's horrific to watch the death of a father or a sister dying from slow diseases such as cancer or Alzheimer's. In some cases, euthanasia seems justifiable, and to many people, it can be. A soldier on the battlefield might pull the trigger on a wounded friend to ease his passing, but is that the proper response? It is ironic that this debate should be so hot at a time where pain-easing technology is better and more effective than at any time in history.
Mercy killing you say? As for me, euthanasia is never a part of my option. People, choose it as an escape for hospital bills.
Euthanasia was illegal in India until 6th march 2011.Supreme court of India declared Passive Euthanasia as legal and acceptable but under certain circumstances. The ruling came as per the Aruna case of 1973. This was indeed a historic moment.PS: Active Euthanasia is still illegal

Euthanasia can potentially free up hospital resources by allowing patients with terminal illnesses or severe suffering to choose an end-of-life option, rather than occupying hospital beds for extended periods. This can help alleviate overcrowding and enable healthcare facilities to allocate staff and resources more effectively to other patients in need of care. However, the ethical implications and individual choices surrounding euthanasia must be carefully considered within the context of patient rights and medical ethics.
