Is it safe to travel to Miami?

Miami is not considered a dangerous city. The overall crime rate has decreased in the past few years.

For those new to the city it is recommended that you use common sense and caution throughout certain parts of the city. Like most cities it has its trouble spots.

I'd steer clear of areas like:

Liberty City, Hialeah, and Little Haiti.

Recently Downtown and the Design District have been made into popular hangouts with new resturants, bars and clubs. My advice is to visit with a local before hanging out there on your own. I would have to disagree. Hialeah is not dangerous at all. I've lived in Miami my whole life. And the areas that I do avoid are: Liberty City, Miami Gardens (east), Opa Locka, Carol City, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Seminola, North Miami Beach (some) and Downtown Miami... Places that are not dangerous: Miami Lakes, Hialeah, Westchester, Aventura, Kendall (some), Miami Beach (some), Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Palm Springs North, Brickell, and Sweetwater. I would also like to add that Hialeah is not dangerous. There is just nothing to do there and good luck finding anyone that speaks English. If you attempt going there you WILL get lost but you won't be robbed or killed. There is a much higher chance of getting mugged in Downtown Miami and the Design District than in Hialeah. Just stay in South Beach and you should be fine.

Miami is not a safe place, the crime rate is one of the highest in the usa,it mostly depends on where in Miami but, it is not a safe place.
