If you are not used to living in a small remote town, probably not. Only 7% of the population is over 65, cost of living is very high, transportation is by air or ferry (no roads) and healthcare is limited to one facility.

Depends on how far one wants to travel as there are 587,875 square miles of the state. The larger cities (Juneau, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Nome) all have some fine dining places.
Yes, Ketchikan has Wal-mart, which sell cheap, plastic kayaks in that time of the year. Also, Ketchikan has a store called Tongass Marine & Outdoors and they also sell Kayaks for a more exspensive price but its much better. I would either recommend that you order them online however for you can have a better selection. Also, I know Tongass Marine and Outdoor sells inflatable kayaks. They work just as good as the real ones! And easy to transport too :) Also you can just rent them from the Rec Center.

The first thing you should do is to find out which industries are hiring With hundreds of older employees being forced to retire from jobs in Alaska, now is a good time to get your foot in the door of these high paying industries.
