I live in Cass Corridor. I grew up in a nice neighborhood in Bloomfield Hills and moved there recently and I can tell you that answer #2 is completely untrue. Cass Corridor is in Detroit, so it's important to be safe and walk with another person after dark, but it is one of the safest areas in the city. It has good places to hang out and alot of history. Cass Corridor is a fine place to live or visit. Use common sense when you re in Detroit and you will be fine.
AnswerNo. It has a reputation for being Detroit's Skid Row, and there are homeless centers in the south end of the corridor that provide a steady influx of drug addicts and prostitutes, but there is also a strong contingent of local artists, students and young creative types. Cass Corridor benefits from being near the cultural district (the Detroit Institute of Arts and other museums) and the Wayne State University campus, which has become much more a part of the neighborhood in the past decade. There are hip bars, coffee shops, record stores and other shops in the area between Canfield and Forest; you'll see many middle-class white kids living and walking around that area. There are new yuppie loft conversions in progress, and several old apartment buildings are being renovated. Gentrification is coming.
It's definitely a vibrant neighborhood now, and while it's obviously not as safe as Ferndale or Royal Oak (car break-ins are common), it's benign compared to many of the city's blighted, gang-ridden poor residential neighborhoods.
ANSWER # 2
While some of what this answer says is true...yes there is a campus there, and yes there are many hip bars and coffee shops. The cass corridor is by far one of the scariest places i have ever seen. The poverty is rampant, crime is at a staggering rate, and if you walk there past dark it is almost 100% guaranteed you will be assaulted, robbed, raped, or murdered for your watch. Iv been there just to get a first hand point of view and ill never go back. If there was a place where you'd be most likely to be randomly killed by a gang member's initiation...this place and compton top the list.
