Is there a sunken city in Tennessee's Percy priest lake?

Yes, there is. Percy Priest Lake was made by flooding a town known as "Old Jefferson". Old jefferson was Rutherford county's captiol until Murfreesboro was built. Old jefferson dates back before the civil war, and was not a very large town. The government had forced people out of there homes, and burned most of them down. The government had flooded the town, but they had not noticed there was a cave system under it and the water went throught the cave system, still leaving part of the historical town above ground. Oops. Also, two thirds of it was gone and the people couldn't move back into their homes, due to their houses being burnt down. Bigger oops. Now, a lot of people have forgotten about Old Jefferson. There is an old courthouse that is mostly intact, except part of it has been demolished by a cannonball during the civil war. There is also a great story of an old mansion that sits on top of a hill, once owned by a rich farmer who owned over 100 slaves. He and his wife torchered the slaves, and even killed some of them. His wife studied witch craft, and was never caught doing so. One day, the farmer locked up his family in the house, and they had starved to death. This farmer had hung himself on an old oak tree, somewhere on the property. No one has ever gone to the mansion since. You can still see some parts of the historical town, but it is now hidden behind the Nissan plant and it is barricaded by Percy priest lake, like a large island. Some maps have been made to get there. Now, nature has covered up old limestone paths that spread accross the town. Trees cover up the paths, and they are very hard to find. Also, in the summer the town is infested with bugs. The bugs are the only thing there, the town is completely deserted, and possibly haunted.
