There are many ways to "enlighten" yourself depending on which subject you want to "enlighten" yourself in.
If you want to generally enlighten yourself, one of the first steps is to find out who you are and how you want to be. This includes noticing and understanding:
1. Your ideals
2. Your behavior towards others
3. How generally you perceive the world around you
The next step is to understand if these are health for you and the others around you.
Is any of this limiting me and my dreams?
Is any of this hurting or not empowering others around me?
Am I at peace with myself?
The next step is to find out if any of the answers to these questions are not what you want. If the answers aren't what you want them to be, then having the motivation and courage to find what makes you happiest is the main thing you should contemplate on at that point in time.
Finally when to feel comfortable changing what you want to change, changing things slowly is most helpful so that you can fully understand that the change is what you ultimately want. You can always stop what you're doing and re-asses by redoing the above steps.
Sorry if this didn't answer the question you were trying to ask. For those who are wondering, I have come up with this through my own experiences; I did not get this from a book.
The Enlightenment was a major influence on the political ideas of the colonists who pushed for independence from Great Britain
The document most closely associated with the Enlightenment and its ideas is the "Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen" (1789) from the French Revolution. It outlined key Enlightenment principles such as equality, liberty, and fraternity.
Enlightenment ideas refer to a philosophical movement in the 18th century that emphasized reason, individualism, and skepticism of traditional institutions such as the church and monarchy. These ideas promoted concepts such as freedom, democracy, and equality, influencing major revolutions like the American and French Revolutions. Key figures associated with Enlightenment ideas include thinkers like John Locke, Voltaire, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

the enlightenment promoted new ideas of art, religion, and philosophy
If there were such a thing as "Enlightenment" then all the ideas would be non consequential in the first place. You may as well make up your own Ideas, as to what Enlightenment is, or would be, or should be, or could be, but in the end who the heck cares. One of the ideas was to apply natural law to human societies. Another one was something of the government. The last one would be natural rights.
One major impact of political ideas from the Enlightenment was the promotion of individual rights and freedoms, leading to revolutions and the establishment of democratic governments. These ideas challenged the traditional authority of monarchies and paved the way for the development of modern concepts of citizenship and governance based on reason and human rights.
