I would say that the South East corner of the UK is generally the warmest, attracting air of the continent. Howvere in winter if the air is a NE or E flow these areas are often the coldest. From April - October the Se is generaly warmer than the midlands and north by between 2-8 celcius.
The excetions to this are when the north is sunnier and the south wetter or when the airflow is more coller from thr East leaving the midlands warmer, as in the last weekend of May 2009.
