Yes. the territory of present-day Guatemala was part of the New Spain from 1521 until 1821, and then part of Mexico from 1821 until 1823, when it split up from Mexico to be part of the "Central American Union". This new country however, was short-lived and was dissolved in 1840 to conform present-day Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
