It depends which chart you are talking about.

It was Number 1 in the Irish Chart in 1987.

For the UK:

It was (number) 3 in 2005, 6 in 2006, 4 in 2007, 12 in 2008, 12 in 2009.

It is currently closing in on the charts in Dec 2010 to become number 1, because of several grassroots movements (for which there are several Facebook groups) to make it number one ahead of Simon Cowell's "X-Factor" winner - due to the over-produced, exclusivist and "automatic entry" nature of previous X-Factor winners, which many see as unfair.
