They are both because Greek Cypriots sometimes speak Turkish and Turkish Cypriots sometimes speak Greek. But Turkish Cypriots always have a different accent to people from Turkey because they don't like to think of themselves as Turkish people, they think of themselves as Cypriot's. Greek Cypriots are the same.
Greek Cypriots if born on Hellenic side or Turkish Cypriots on Turkish Side
The majority of Cyprus is made of Greek Cypriots and a minority is made of Turkish Cypriots. There have also been an influx of forced migration from the Turkish mainland that has doubled the number of "Turkish Cypriots" even though these people have no Cypriot heritage and have been used in an attempt to change the population dynamics in Cyprus.
Cypriots
The Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 resulted in significant loss of life, with estimates of casualties ranging from around 3,000 to 5,000 people. The conflict led to the displacement of a large number of individuals, with many Greek Cypriots fleeing south and Turkish Cypriots moving north. The invasion and subsequent division of the island have had lasting political and social implications for both communities.
they are called Cypriots
OK, let me get this straight, i am a Turkish Cypriot so that means Turkey owns 1 half of Cyprus, the other half is owned by the Greek Cypriots which i have a lot of respect for because if it wasn't for them Cyprus wouldn't be what it is today. Originally the first country to occupied Cyprus was the Turkish people, they then settled about 100 years ago and created their own culture because they did not think of themselves as Turkish Cypriot's, they thought of themselves as just Cypriots. Then the Greeks invaded and the Turks and Greeks had a war over who claims Cyprus, in the end they ended up sharing Cyprus. About 30 years ago Cyprus was literally divided in half, one for the Turkish Cypriots and one for the Greek Cypriots. In 1971,or sometime then, the government decided it was unfair that the Turkish Cypriots could not mix with the Greek Cypriots so now we live together as one big family in perfect harmony and Greek Cypriots speak Turkish and Turkish Cypriots speak Greek. END OF
Turkish people came from central Asia, after the Russian war 5 or 6 turkic states formed and Turkish people came from the country Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan then they went west through the Caspian sea, past Azerbaijan and found a good spot of land which now Turkey then the Turks formed an empire called the Ottoman empire
Turkish people speak Turkish. It is the official language of Turkey and is also spoken in parts of Cyprus and other countries with Turkish communities.
Cyprus citizens are called Cypriots. The term "Cypriot" refers to individuals who are natives or legal residents of Cyprus, an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean. This term is used to identify the people of Cyprus in a national or ethnic context.
Greek Orthodox Christianity or particularly "the Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus/ Cypriot Orthodox Church" It's part of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Not forgetting the Turkish community, whch would follow Islam.
Cyprus, an island nation off the coast of Turkey, has the official languages of Greek and Turkish.Because of the division, Greek is spoken largely in the southern part of the island and Turkish in the northern part.English is also widely spoken, and official documents are usually available in English as well as Greek and Turkish. In 1974 Cyprus was an island nation with a democratically elected government and with a population of citizens of both Greek and Turkish origin. In 1974 the Cypriot National Guard overthrew the democratically elected government of Cyprus. Turkey claimed that the Cypriot National Guard was controlled by a Greek junta and that the governmental overthrow amounted to an "invasion" of Cyprus by Greece. Turkey then 'retaliated' (in support of the overthrown government) by invading Cyprus by land and naval forces which, in turn, brought full scale retaliation from Greece, which did likewise. I suppose it depends on which side you support as to which scenario you subscribe to. --------------------------------------- However if you look at the BBC reports and go to the National History Library, you would see that the greek cypriots joined Greece in 1953 to try and take over the country. The English government sent troops the keep the peace but they were also killed by the greek army from Greece who also over threw the priminister of Cyprus in order to take control. Turkey entered the country to save the Turkish cypriots from being killed and as of today the northen side is still not allowed to trade and fund themselves unless Turkey keeps supporting them. 1963 a document was signed recognising 2 separate states which now the English and greek government ignores.
