attacks on U.S. and British ships
Germany. Germany caused Americans to be raged, and want President Woodrow Wilson to take action in the war, but he kept neutrality for a while, but then entered the war.
Ridiculously, nothing. Hitler "called their bluff" they decided to take no action right away. Eventually Hitler and Germany were more powerful than the league and from this position they could do nothing.
World War I happened during the Wilson Administration.
William Wilson Bruce has written: 'Action of a particle in a Newtonian field'
President Wilson asked for a declaration of war against Germany primarily due to the resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare by the German Navy, which posed a direct threat to American ships and lives. Additionally, the interception of the Zimmerman Telegram, in which Germany proposed a military alliance with Mexico against the United States, further inflamed public opinion and solidified the call for action. These events collectively pushed Wilson to abandon his earlier stance of neutrality and seek congressional approval for war.
There were many reasons that had a hand in pulling the US into WW1. In 1915 Germany attacked the US ship Lusitania, and many people were mad about that. President Wilson declared neutrality, but he continued to trade war material with Great Britain and the Allies. Germany continued unrestricted submarine warfare despite Wilson's warning. Finally the US found about the Zimmerman Program between Germany and Mexico, which was basically Germany trying to convince Mexico to attack the US. This was the final push for the US to enter WW1 in 1917.

The final action taken by Germany that prompted President Woodrow Wilson to ask Congress for a declaration of war was the resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare in early 1917. This aggressive military strategy threatened American ships and lives, leading to the sinking of several vessels, including the Lusitania in 1915 and later incidents that endangered American citizens. Additionally, the interception of the Zimmermann Telegram, in which Germany proposed a military alliance with Mexico against the United States, further inflamed public opinion and galvanized support for entering the war. These factors combined led Wilson to advocate for U.S. involvement on the side of the Allies.
One action that the Germans took, which violated the laws of neutrality, was their use of unrestricted submarine warfare. This involved sinking merchant ships, including those of neutral countries, without warning. Another action was the Zimmermann Telegram, in which Germany proposed an alliance with Mexico against the United States. These actions led President Wilson to believe that Germany was disregarding the principles of neutrality and posing a threat to American interests.
