Los "Reyes" is the story taken from The Bible in regard to the birth of Jesus Christ. It is about the three Kings that followed the star to find baby Jesus. Actually, the tradition is well known among Hispanics. The three kings followed the star in the desert until they found baby Jesus and brought him three gifts, Myrrh, Frankincense, and gold. The names of the three Kings "los Reyes" are : Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar. They were the first to meet him and offered something to baby Jesus. Among Hispanics, most of the population follows the Catholic church because of history; The "Reyes are the true meaning behind the Christmas gifts to the children". The celebration of "los Reyes" takes place on January 6 every year, the Feast of the Epiphany. What the kids have to do is to go out and put grass in a box and put it under their beds and next day, the grass won't be there; instead they will have a gift, an imitation of the gifts offered to baby Jesus. The grass is supposedly for the camels.
