Athens because Sparta's didn't have good development.
Ancient Greece was a fun place to be at!
Sparta was a good example of limited democracy, Athens of radical democracy.
The good things about ancient Athens is, Athens is they had really good poets, they had great mathematics skills, they also have great artist. The bad things about ancient Athens is women didn't have many freedoms like the freedom to vote, go to the agora and all the things the men get to. Also another good things about Athens is it is still the capital of Greece, but Sparta is not a city anymore.
Athens was a democracy and had more liberal (for that time) thinking and had good navy. Sparta was a oligarchy was more conservative and militaristic and had great army. In the war between them (Peloponnesian war), Sparta won.
In Sparta women where some sense freer than the Athens. the women had many rights they could participate in sports in fact they needed to be healthy so much that they would leave the weaker newborns to die.
I dont know what boys were but women had no rights in Athens and in Sparta they did.
It was neither good nor bad. It was common practice in antiquity.
Sparta only focused on strength reading writing if this had nothing to due with a good military they wouldn`t be there. Athens though was about the Arts so building writing Darma and such was more there focus
The Peloponnesian War was a series of conflicts between the Athens and the Delian League and Sparta and the Peloponnesian League. The basic cause the was expansion of the influence of Athens into Lacodaemon, the territory Sparta controlled. The war ended in 404 B.C. with the surrender of Athens to Sparta. Corinth and Thebes wished for Athens to be destroyed and its people enslaved, but Sparta refused, citing that it would not destroy and city that had done good service at the time of greatest danger for Greece (citing the Greco-Persian wars).
Sparta: better military, more rights for woman, oligarchy government, land locked Athens: better navy, less rights for woman, good democratic government, near a good source of water Please note that even though Athens had a smaller army, they could still win. Remember the battle of the Marathon? They were greatly outnumbered, but still claimed victory. For more information, click the Explore link in the Sparta link in the Related link.
Sparta and Athens were not rivals in 480 BCE - that came more than 30 years afterwards when the threat of Persia subsided. Sparta had promised to help them against the Persian attack on Athens in 490 BCE, but its army had arrived on the battlefield at Marathon too late. They remained on good terms and were natural allies in the Persian invasion in 480-479 BCE, providing the two largest contingents to the southern Greek coalition, led by Sparta, which repelled the invasion. Even if Athens had not been friendly with Sparta, it had no choice because it was a prime target of the Persian invasion and needed all the help it could get. It was not a case of Athens joining force with Sparta, it was Athens seeking the help of Sparta and its allies. They remained close allies for another 20 years, Athens helping Sparta put down a rebellion in its territory. They fell out when Athens started interfering in the affairs of the Peloponnesian League cities (which Sparta led) and Athens ignored Sparta's appeal to back off, leading to an all-out war.
